Community Midwives

Our District nurses are able to visit you at home if you are housebound.

They are able to provide care that includes support for patients and their carers during periods of illness, wound care including post-operative care, assessment on continence and catheterisation. They also offer ‘flu/pneumonia’ injections to all housebound patients.

The District nursing team can be contacted on 01685 846847 (answer phone available to take messages).

If you are expecting a baby, please see the reception team who will refer you on to a team of midwives. You need to see the midwives, preferably, before you are 10 weeks pregnant.

Health Visitors

Our Health Visitors are Jackie Swithenbank and Sarah Liverick. They are based at New Tredegar and can be contacted on 01443 878326. They are able to discuss child and family health issues at home or in the Medical Centre. Well Baby clinic is held every Tuesday between 2.00pm—4.00pm for advice, weighing and immunisations.

Regular child Health clinics are held where issues such as sleep, behaviour, nutrition and toilet training can be discussed. Health visitors provide support to families, including emotional support, following the birth of a baby. They also work outside the practice in family centres and communities supporting public health initiatives. This work includes health promotion, such as healthy eating, smoking cessation and promoting breast feeding to a wider community.

Counsellors

Your mental health is as important to us as your physical health. Many people feel that they are "wasting the doctor's time" if they talk about how they feel. We believe that nothing could be further from the truth. Not only are all of the doctors, nurses and health visitors happy to listen to you, we also have a counsellor to give more in depth help. Please see your GP if you feel you would benefit from this help.
