A doctor or nurse is available Monday - Friday during opening times 08.00-18:30.
The practice offers extended hours on Tuesday evenings from 18:30 - 19:00 at both the New Tredegar and Rhymney site. We also offer early appointments at the New Tredegar site starting at 07:30 on Friday mornings.
There is not always a doctor on site at Deri surgery but patients can attend clinics or speak to a doctor at New Tredegar or Rhymney.
Consultations are by appointment and are for 10 minutes as a standard but please tell us if you feel you will need more time.
For routine appointments, please try to book in good time as all the clinicians have different work patterns.
NB: If you require a special examination or report for insurance, driving, employment etc. please mention this when you book the appointment so that enough time can be allotted.
Telephone consultations and same day appointments
There is a telephone triage system in place for same day or emergency problems. A receptionist will take your details and telephone number and a doctor or nurse practitioner will telephone you as soon as emergencies allow, please be advised that calls from the practice will display as 0330 024 4637. As the service is delivered on a clinical need and urgency basis rather than a first come first served basis a brief outline of your problem to the receptionist would help us prioritise your call.
Dependent on the nature of your problem the doctor or nurse will allocate appropriate appointment or treatment accordingly.
At certain times of the day our specially trained nurse Lynne Leek holds minor illness clinics.
If you have an urgent problem please inform the receptionist. Brief details of the issue help us to prioritise you call. He/She will organise for you to have the next available appointment.
Common Ailments Service
Your Pharmacist can provide free confidential NHS advice and treatment without you having to make an appointment to see your GP. This includes the following:
Indigestion, constipation, diarrhoea, piles, hay fever, head lice, teething, nappy rash, colic, chicken pox, threadworms, sore throat, athlete's foot, conjunctivitis, mouth ulcers, cold sores, acne, dermatitis, verruca, back pain, ingrowing toenails, vaginal thrush, oral thrush, scabies.
If you arrive more than 10 minutes late without prior warning you will be asked to re-book your appointment.
If you are too ill to come to the surgery, please phone as early in the day as you can — a doctor will call you back and will come out to see you at home if necessary. Please note that home visits are at the doctors’ discretion.
The practice policy is that the doctors will not visit children at home. Children who are ill are should be brought to the Centre for an emergency appointment where they will undergo a thorough assessment. This is considered to be a more safe approach.
If you cannot keep an appointment please let us know, at least 1 hour prior to your appointment time, so that your appointment can be offered to another patient. You can phone the surgery on 01685 700404. You can also cancel online via your My Health Online account.
If you provide us with an up to date mobile phone number you will receive text reminders of booked appointments.
Failure to Attend Appointments
The practice has a DNA (Did Not Attend) policy, please make every effort to attend your appointment or cancel at least 1 hour before, if you no longer need it. The practice offers a text reminder service for all appointments, please ensure we hold you current mobile phone number on record.
Failure to attend any booked appointments will be recorded in medical records as 'DNA' entry (Did Not Attend) Repeated DNA's may result in you being removed from the practice list in line with our DNA policy.
